FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- When should I reserve my cake?
- I limit the number of cakes each week. Cakes are booked 6-12 months in advance especially for peak wedding season which is June through September with Saturdays being the most popular day.
Celebration cakes should be booked as soon as you know the date to assure that your date will be available, preferably at least 2 weeks. At certain times I may have availability with shorter notice.
- How do you price your cakes?
- The price of each cake is determined by the size, flavor and complexity of design.
- The facility I am renting for my reception/party requires that all food including the cake come from a licensed baker/caterer. Are you a licensed baker?
- Yes, I am licensed with the State of South Dakota Department of Health. I also hold a ServSafe food handlers permit.
- Where are you located?
- Because Sugar Momma's Custom Cakery is a special order cake studio, we do not have a storefront and are available by appointment only. Please call 605-295-0288 or submit a "Contact Sugar Momma's" form.
- Do you have tastings?
- Yes, if you would like to have a tasting before you decide on the flavors for your wedding or other occasion cake, the cost is $20. This fee is credited to your final total with a booking of 80 servings or more. Tastings are by appointment only and provide enough samples for 3 people.
- Can I choose more than one flavor?
- Yes, with stacked or tiered cakes you can have each tier a different flavor. There is no additional charge for this option, although there is an upgrade for specialty flavors.
- Does fondant taste good?
- Yes, my fondant is delicious. It is homemade by me and it has a vanilla marshmallow flavor. I do put buttercream underneath my fondant so you have the best of both worlds.
- Do you provide fresh flowers for my cake?
- It is the brides responsibility to provide fresh flowers for the cake. Please let your florist know that the flowers will be placed on a cake so that they can make sure the flowers are nontoxic and pesticide free.
If you would like me arrange the flowers to place on your cake I charge $.50 per stem. This cost covers my time as well as the floral wires, floral tape and water picks etc.
- Why is the deposit nonrefundable?
- A 25% deposit will reserve your date with the balance owed due 3 weeks prior to your reception date. The deposit is nonrefundable because this date is dedicated and reserved for you. You can make changes to your design and servings up to 3 weeks prior to your reserved date.
- Do you deliver?
- We will deliver in the Yankton area. There may be a delivery fee to utilize this service.
- How do I transport my cake home? What if it is damaged?
- The support system that we use was designed specifically for cakes being picked up by customers. It is very secure all cakes should travel safely. However, sudden stops and quick turns cause the most damage to cakes in transit. Drive as if there is a 5 gallon bucket full of water to within 1 inch of the top, especially if you are traveling with a tiered cake.
•Always carry cake in a level position.
•Always avoid, if possible, bumps and holes in the road.
•Always try to avoid making sharp turns and rapid stops.
•Always brace box with heavier object to keep box from sliding.
•Always keep vehicle cool.
We are not responsible for cakes once they are out of our hands. This includes cakes picked up and setup by customers and cakes damaged after it has been setup at the venue by Sugar Momma's Custom Cakery.
